Description

EVERYDAY THINGS WHITE CITY GENERATIONS 88-97 is a photobook that attempts to answer two pivotal questions; what is the everyday and what our are our everyday things? This photobook is compromised by a series of photographs made with a familial group of young Black adults living in White City, Shepherd's Bush, West London. It also features archival records which reveal White City's past as a former imperial and colonial exhibitions grounds, and its more recent histories as an interwar utopian council estate. Throughout the photobook, annotative reflections exploring what it was like to grow up in and live the area, are shared by the familial group alongside their perceptions of White City’s historical and contemporary representations. Fundamentally this photobook also serves as means of paying homage West London situated notions of Black experiences and Black joy.
