Description

It was a hot, humid summer in the American South as perhaps what would be the last grassroots U.S. presidential campaign began in earnest. The national press corps had descended on tiny Plains, Georgia to witness a little-known southern governor who had broken through the field of Democratic contenders and had won his party’s nomination for president. The governor was Jimmy Carter and photojournalist Ken Hawkins was there capturing his ascent to the presidency. Many of the moments captured – both public and private – have never been published – until now.

Hawkins book Jimmy Carter – Photographs 1970 – 2010 opens with a foreword by Carter White House Deputy Press Secretary Rex Granum that precedes one hundred twenty five tritone photographs and an afterword by the photographer.
Profits from the sale of the book are donated to the Carter Center's global humanitarian outreach.
