“When you're a father, you'll understand,” my dad used to say. What am I going to understand? Will I ever sleep like I used to? How do you live with so many fears? What did my dad feel that I'm not feeling yet? It’s three in the morning. The questions are awake and the answers are asleep. It’s five, and I wake up to rock her. It’s six, maybe I can sleep a few more hours. Like a single night is Guido Ast's first book. The project was born during the early mornings of his fatherhood, where his days follow one another like a single night. The work addresses themes such as fatherhood, love, and the fear of loss.
