<text>By observing and making imagery of the natural world around me, I have become a collector—I am gathering together images whose subjects are often scattered or widespread. Like Jazz, these images exist through improvisation, syncopation, and rhythm. Their meaning is developed through their own fluidity and abstraction. But also, this imagery is rooted in memory and my desire for the past to go away. Through organization and curation, I am able to redefine my own history.

The images are paired with vignettes of writing that explore the loss of a relationship, the loss of what home means, and the feeling of being unmoored. I spent the last ten years of my life drifting, and this series is an exploration of feeling lost within that physical and emotional landscape. The figures in the book are representative of metaphors that look at astrology, myth, and symbolism.</text>

<text>Sumo is a collaborative project between Photographer Tom Moran and Set Designer Nazuna Akao. The conversation started in February 2020 to create a still-life interpretation of Sumo and the project continued remotely during national lockdown, with Nazuna sending materials, sketches and instructions to Tom’s studio. It was finally completed in-person in early 2021.

The aim of the project is to distill and convey the forces of weight, strength, tension, power and release that occur in a Sumo bout. The materials used reflect the materials used in making a Sumo ring such as clay, ropes, and straw and also food as this is very important in providing the wrestlers with their energy. All sets were created without adhesives so in many of the images the distribution of weight and balance creates the tension between the objects which holds them together or apart.

The images were combined with text to create a fold-out Zine. Designer Rachel Bungey drew inspiration from old Sumo magazines from Japan, incorporating design elements to add another layer to the project. Japanese characters have been used to subtly link the text and images. The idea of the fold-out Zine is that it can be equally at home on the wall as on the bookshelf and is not only an aesthetic project but can also be informative.</text>

<text>'Things Given' explores the connection between objects and memory. Of being taken to a place or time at a different point in life. A memory of a person connected to that object, kept by them, given by them. Aligning the past and present in a moment. The original project has been made into a handmade artists book with a limited edition of ten copies. This version offers a pack of non-postcards, 6 cards with 12 images in total. Each card is printed on both sides thus rendering its use as a postcard as open to question it becomes an object in its own right. The postcards are contained in a wrap with a belly band with an informational label inside.</text>
