Title A name given to the resource Homeland 1892.DOC.KOROBKIEWICZ Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Paulina Korobkiewicz, Yuxi Hou, Sylwia-Ciszewska Peciak, Marcin Forys Description An account of the resource Homeland is a photobook and exhibition catalogue capturing the outcome of photographer Paulina Korobkiewicz’s 18-month residency at Centrala, realised between West Bromwich and Hyson Green. Exploring themes of political identity, belonging, memory, and representation, this project examines the lives and spaces of migrant communities, especially Polish migrants, in these multicultural towns. Through her photographs, Korobkiewicz documents people and the physical landscapes—buildings, streets, and public spaces—that reflect a fusion of cultural identities, nostalgia, and contemporary life. Throughout the residency, Korobkiewicz established close relationships with community members, joining local celebrations, and leading dialogues to understand how migrant communities interact within and influence these neighbourhoods. Her work is accompanied by photographic projects from Sylwia Ciszewska-Peciak, Yuxi Hou, Ismail Khokon, and Marcin Forys, members of the Central European Photography Club, with whom she collaborated as a mentor. Together, their work creates a collective portrait of migration, belonging, and visibility. This artist residency forms part of ‘Post-Socialist Britain?’, a research initiative exploring memory, representation, and political identity among German, Polish, and Ukrainian immigrants in the UK. The project was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and developed in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Nottingham Trent University. Curated by Rafailia Thiraiou, Homeland serves as both a visual archive and an exhibition catalogue. Title A name given to the resource Looking For Signs 1819.DOC.FINNEMORE Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Peter Finnemore Description An account of the resource This body of work is a distinct photographic and text art project, made and inspired from two trips to India in 2017 & 2018 and edited and sequenced over a 5 year period. Looking For Signs, is an experience of India made through the expressive frame of a hand held camera. The snapshot vision is used as a means of fluid and abstract documentation. This book resembles a travel companion, an almanac of unfolding of time and narrative through the flow of appearances. Over 300 pages, this is a durational and almost encyclopedic narrative experience of India, made through imperfect open-ended visual fragments and encounters with the transience of appearances. Mapping the boundaries and crossovers between the physical and ephemeral, perception and manifestation. In this arena the western self, collides & entangles within the complex dynamics of the cultural, social and historical ecosystems of India. Equally, it explores the universal conventions of photography- its democratic versatility, its technology, its role within capitalism, collective memory, historical remembrance, story telling and desire. Like individual memory, the physical materiality of the medium – its images, technology and craft are subject to disuse, erosion and dissolution. These are subjective photographs of travel made in the mind. Title A name given to the resource Memento Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Peter Kollanyi Description An account of the resource Memento is a limited edition book published with the support from Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center. It includes the poem "A Sedimental Glossary" specifically written for this album by the internationally acclaimed writer Peter Nadas. Five years later Péter Kollányi’s poetic images of the red mud catastrophe remind us to recall one of the most frightening environmental disasters. On a tranquil October day at Ajka alumina plant in Hungary, a dyke suddenly burst and 1 million cubic metres of toxic red mud poured out of the storage pond, causing the immediate evacuation of two villages. Residents had only a few minutes to leave and most of them could never return home. The mud painted everything with all shades of red – what remained was solely chaos and silence. For over a year the Hungarian documentary photographer had shot images of the ghost villages before the abandoned houses were knocked down. His award-winning photo series systematically pursued to find vanishing marks of human existence, creating an elegiac refrain between the post- apocalyptic view and passing life. Title A name given to the resource Edo Shelfmark - 1023.ASIA/UL.COOK Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Peter M. Cook Description An account of the resource British architectural photographer Peter M. Cook (*1967) started travelling to Tokyo in 1992, settling there in 1998. Peter has devoted himself to photographing buildings across Japan. Edo, which is the old name for Tokyo, is the culmination of twenty years tirelessly documenting Tokyo and its buildings, recording an architectural evolution of the city. For his photo book, Peter M. Cook has selected 100 images of Tokyo, paying homage to the visual language of Hiroshige's 100 Views of Edo: Mount Fuji makes an appearance, ghostlike in the background, its powerful iconic presence a reminder of a constant in nature, in contrast to the urban landscape at its base. At the same time, Cook's abstract aesthetics are reminiscent of the pioneering silent film Metropolis from 1927, which has set the scene for the futuristic city. The book furthermore includes a haiku by the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma whose buildings Cook started to document for a new project.
