<text>Former public defender Sara Bennett has spent the past thirteen years photographing women convicted of homicide and sentenced to life in prison in New York State. In her long-term project Looking Inside. Women with Life Sentences, Bennett traces their lives across time and space: inside prison walls, in their post-incarceration bedrooms, and as they reenter the outside world after decades behind bars. Through intimate portraits and personal ephemera—Polaroids, letters, drawings, and handwritten notes—Bennett creates a striking reminder of the complexity and humanity of women who are, and have always been, far more than the single act that sent them to prison for life. The publication is complemented by a powerful afterword by Judith Clark, who served thirty-eight years in prison and is now director of the Survivors Justice Project.

<text>“Lost and Found” is an ongoing series that examines the practical use of vernacular photography in public space by means of appropriation and recontextualisation. The first edition of the series consists of eight missing report posters found and removed from the streets of London. The poster motifs are juxtaposed fragments cat, ring or hard drive providing the compositional structure. The collected materials share a common feature of the photographic medium whose original function served social and communicative purposes. The “found" street posters combine photography with typography to aid their creator in retrieving what they have lost. By extracting the posters from their original location without any consent, I intervene in this process making the act of appropriation a very physical one. Through simple abstraction methods and placing the redesigned visual content in connection to one another, the photographs take on a new level of functionality with new artistic interventions. The broader intention is to reassess the everyday imagery which influences our urban public spaces reflecting a more local context void of the networked online global community.</text>

“This is the story of a slow disappearance, in the sand and in time. The end of a world, a trip through post-soviet Central Asia and the Xinjiang province in China. I had read “Djamila”, by the Kyrghyz poet Tchinguiz Aitmatov, and it made me dream of the kolkhozes lost in the steppes and of its peoples : Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Kyrgyzs, Karakapalks… From 2002 to 2005, I managed to travel to the Aral region in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, on the banks of the Issyk Kul lake in Kyrgyzstan and in Xinjiang.

“Loulan Beauty” is the story of these people from the middle of the world, heirs of sunken kingdoms. This is the story of fishermen without a sea, of children who dance to bring back their parents who work far away, of Lola who dreams of America, of men who listen to the sands singing, of the girls with a thousand braids, just like those found on Loulan, their four thousand year old ancestor.”</text>

<text>Love at last sight is a book that combines dance and photography. The project originates from the vision of several people to the question: what is your image of a happy relationship? The answers, recorded in words in the book, are uniquely easy to visualize. What the author pictured instead was the very opposite. With the help of two dancers, two children, and an elaborated mise-en-scène, she staged the less desired side of romantic relationships.
The performers of these choreography are the dancers Pedro Mendes and Sandra Rosado and the two children, Mariana Mendes and Francisco Miranda. The choreographer and dancer Teresa Simas determined the sequence of the images, obeying a choreographic order.
Following a holistic approach to her projects, the author created each stage of the process.</text>
