<text>Extra Ordinary is a self-published photobook capturing the beauty, humour, and subtle irony of daily life as seen throughout the streets of East London — with moments also drawn from other corners of the capital. The images document just over a year’s worth of work. They draw a line in the sand—a moment in time spent uncovering the remarkable, the humour, and the ‘extra’ in the ‘ordinary’—an ongoing journey that certainly doesn’t end here.</text>

I conducted interviews and heard often heartfelt and very personal stories. Among the people I met were a racer from Alabama who strapped on his gun before stepping out of his house for a chat; a ‘real Daisy Duke’ from Colorado; a mother who was barred from driving demolition derby for being too aggressive; and Bruce and Dave, friends who were still fixing the same cars together 30 years on.

I drove a total of 181 hours, zigzagging through 26 states from Michigan in the north, to North Carolina in the east, Arizona in the south and as far west as Nevada; I met people in 15 of these. We connected via social media, people referred me to their friends, and I knocked on doors when I saw a Mustang (or two!) parked outside.</text>

<text>The photobook collects a series of sceneries exclusively black and white photographs taken throughout the years, all shot on film with a Holga 120. Each photo paired up a page written in poetical prose, that altogether form a whole novel. (27 photos matching 27 pages of novel). To underline the expressive power of analog photography, each written page is graphically textured, marked and bruised as the film the photographer shot his pictures on.

The concept underneath it is simple: influenced by the work of photographer James Nachtway, by the literary works of E.A.Poe and by his own experience of living in a country that has and is still going through much ordeals, in this book the author takes the reader with him throughout the journey of a raven, only living thing, an omnipresent and omniscient symbol: a silent witness that documents the utter loneliness of a world deprived of its humanity. </text>

<text>Comprising 51 black and white photographs, False Friends by Dublin based photographer and master printer, DOMINIC TURNER, ponders notions of absence and misunderstanding and invites the viewer to embrace the shadows and obfuscations of a familiar, yet unrecognisable world.

"There are those who would have us believe that the scariest of monsters dwell in the shadows and that we must be on permanent guard. I prefer to think that, while always striving to increase our understanding of the world, we can acknowledge and accept the things we do not know and bathe in the soothing powers of the shade."

Turner’s work has a tactile, almost ethereal quality, which stems from his fastidious and experimental approach to the process of image making. These are images that are deeply ponderous in nature and often require repeated viewings which reveal the subtle details that unlock the work.

<text>As part of the 2025 Berkofsky Arts Award, Prem Dosanjh has used the awarded grant to produce a project centred around his family history that explores Glaswegian-Punjabi culture. His work looks towards a personal archive of his family history, examining both written and photographic documents and organising this material into a photobook collection of scanned images and film photographs. Prem spent time at his Nani’s house in Glasgow collecting scans of older photographs, documents and objects and taking new photographs of his Nani and mother in the city. Through recontextualising older archive material, he aims to emphasise that histories of migration do not possess a conclusive ‘end’ and instead take new forms in subsequent generations, shaping British culture.</text>
