<text>Number 2 came three years after this journal made its debut. In those three years, we’ve had a pandemic, a global supply chain crisis and more recently in Europe, the war in Ukraine. In this edition, environmental calamity has a more profound co-starring role. It represents the consequences of the choices we make as humans. Darkness and light, life and death, and pastel and pop interlock with one another. Life isn’t black-and-white but it is about duality, nonetheless. But as this journal alludes, winter always turn to spring. And the rain will stop at some point.

<text>“Same same, but different” is a common phrase in Thailand mainly used with tourists. I think it shows a flexibility of thought and the Thai flair for
translation, doubling the word for emphasis. Compiling the photos for this zine I found I had a lot of pairs that embodied this concept, they naturally fell into place around this theme. For me they represent what I really enjoy about wandering around the streets in Thailand.
I grew up in London, and when I first visited Thailand I was struck by the relaxed humour in every day life. So many things were different from what I was used to back home, from night markets to entire families on motorbikes. People have generally been very welcoming and open with me there. It’s one of my favourite places in the world to take photographs because of this.
The ๆ symbol is used to indicate that the word or phrase preceding it is repeated, for the title I decided on “Same ๆ”. I hope my images have captured some of the humour and duality I have encountered. These photographs were taken on multiple trips to the Kingdom of Thailand between 2017-2023.</text>

<text>Diachronicles is an examination of the historical space, regarded as a fictional container where an apparent collection of evidence opens up to the fantastic. In this space, the attempt to reconstruct the past falls into phantasmal gaps, where things are generated, used, buried, unearthed, transported, and relocated.
This nomadic and fragmentary nature of what has been left behind, reveals how the movement, transfiguration, and misinterpretation of objects shape historiography and ultimately, the real.
In the impossible search of academic legitimation, the viewer is invited into a world where the factual and the fake overlap. The work is about the absence of memory and addresses the leading role archaeology, photography and the museum space play in a historical narrative. In doing so, the human body is used to suggest scale and as a means to display objects.

Furthermore, Diachronicles digs into a parallel history, filled with disappearances, figures to decode, nonexistent artefacts and forgeries hidden in museums basements </text>

<text>'The Silent Land' documents a Forestry Commission plantation managed for timber and recreational use, which grows on the remains of ancient lead works on the Mendip Hills in Somerset. This is where a man chose to end his life in 2016. Affected by this tragic event in a place he knew intimately, Jesse Alexander used the memorializing act of photography to explore the elegiac potential of the forest, quietly observing the seasonal changes and their cycles. It invites questions around the paradox of outdoor, ‘natural’ spaces – how these provide well documented benefits for health and wellbeing, but are often infused with pathos and melancholy, and are frequently the destination of choice for those seeking to end their lives.

a book of multiple encounters, from the controlled conditions of the herbarium, to wild wanderings
a book that can be read from multiple directions, or viewpoints, starting with science or experience

The book explores one woman’s relationship with Map Lichen and the places that they inhabit. Over a period of two years she travelled to locations across the UK to spend time with the lichen in often remote and challenging terrain. She walked and slept among the lichen, sensitising herself to the elements that these friendly green crusts need to survive. She made photographs and wrote poems. The ‘maps’ guiding her into lichen territory.

Alongside her fieldwork she spent time with displaced lichen. The Natural History Museum in London is home to half a million lichen specimens, looked after by the Curator of Lichens. 120 of these samples are Map Lichen collected across the UK from the 1800s. Each visitor to the collection reviews the files and leaves their own notes, suggestions and new samples… After all science, knowledge and the herbarium itself are not static.</text>

The term weeds has been around in horticultural language for centuries and it has never really been questioned until recently. There is no such thing as a weed, these plants are simply being appointed this name for growing in places they shouldn’t. However, these plants should be commended for the adaptability they develop in our ever changing world and being able to grow in the most unusual places.</text>
