<text>Photographer and life-long Tottenham Hotspur fan, Martin Andersen has turned his camera on his fellow fans to create ‘Can’t Smile Without You’, an intimate and often visceral collection of photographs taken at home, away, and across Europe from 2013 until 2017 with the last game played at the White Hart Lane stadium. Selected and edited from over one hundred different games, Andersen presents an authentic and unflinching documentation of the fans and their resultant relationships and community. His imagery depicts the drama, tensions, and raw emotions involved in such unwavering support of a football team that infiltrates every part of life.

Capturing a rapidly changing culture and a unique moment in Tottenham Hotspur’s history following the demolition of the 118 year-old stadium at White Hart Lane at the end of the 2016/17 season, the monochrome images in ‘Can’t Smile Without You’ also have a timeless quality that transcends the recent era they were taken in. These could be images of any diehard football fans and of the associated rituals, pre and post match, that are an integral part of being one.</text>

<text>Cantera started in August 2024, when our landlord called to inform us that we needed to leave the apartment. Out of the blue, sometime in the months ahead, our family history would be wiped away from the house so that another could start in the same place. From that moment, I started to document the many things that had created an illusion of belonging and possession in a place that had never been ours: the paintings on the wall, the arrangement of furniture, the way the spaces are occupied, the emptiness of all elements as workers stripped the flooring.

Cantera aims to create a dialogue between the two predominant readings of the term household (readings that are mutually exclusive, opposed, and cannot be conceived in the presence of the other). The first reading views the house as property, as an asset for speculation and extraction. The second, the most familiar, conceives it in its purest definition as home and place we build to provide intimacy to a portion of the world where we soak up much of who we become.

<text>The tension between culture and nature is a matchmaking force that has occupied our minds for centuries. In a current system that dehumanizes and separates, ‘Elective Affinities’ brings together a series of personal stories that investigate universal themes inviting the reader's reflection on the human condition. Through six visual essays, these authors observe connections between people, their beliefs and actions by exploring family narratives, the process of grief and loss, the margins of social standards, mythological representations, the relation between faith and place and the imact of urban racial segregation. The resulting work has been produced throughout Catalyst, an international mentorship programme, supporting six innovative photographers working alongside a group of international mentors; consisting of artists, designers, curators, educators and photographers. The programme is designed to further their personal careers and widen their approach and methods to photographing. The programme is directed by IC Visual Lab in collaboration with Bristol Photo Festival.

This collective publication is one of our tools to support future editions of CATALYST Mentorship programme in collaboration with Bristol Photo Festival. The funds raised with this publication will be entirely dedicated to the next edition of CATALYST, with financial rewards for mentees/mentors and no entry fee. If you would like to support future editions of this programme you can order this now with the great work from the first CATALYST mentees.

<text>Cave Homo is a zine about professional skateboarder Brian Anderson. Mostly known for his international success becoming Thrasher’s Skater of the Year in 1999 and winning the World Cup of Skateboarding in Münster, Germany the same year, he has since become one of the most iconic and respected professional Skateboarders worldwide. In 2016, Brian came out as gay. In a Vice documentary he talks about his journey, fears, and why it was the right decision to no longer keep his sexuality a secret.

Designer Luke Williams and photographer Christian Trippe collaborated closely with Brian to create Cave Homo. The zine is a combination of portraits, shot in an exclusive intimate photo shoot, excerpts from Brian’s private sketchbooks and personal collection of polaroids. Cave Homo reveals a new and different side of Brian, outside the skateboarding world.</text>

<text>I am a flower born and raised from concrete.

Through the portraits of my friends, I tell part of my story, my passion for the blocks, sneakers, rap, graffiti, and therefore my passion for the roads; but more importantly, I shared what I learned through what I experienced and saw in the streets and who I became along the path that took me from Rome to London.
Again! I’m not documenting the roads, what I have passed and seen, but I tell what I have learned, and what being on the roads has taught me.

10 chapters that I prefer to call 10 teachings, the ones most important to me, and 10 friends to whom I have given the responsibility, for different reasons, to disseminate 1 of these 10 teachings.

The origins, the backgrounds, the generations they represent, the contexts, the dreams and desires, the past or the present, the attitude, the passions, the feelings, etc. are all the reasons why I have chosen, exactly, these 10 friends to represent the lessons I have learned along this journey in the streets.

This wants to be a book of teaching, of revenge, a book that teaches to believe in oneself and one’s dreams; but perhaps more than anything else it simply wants to be a book of hope.

I’d also love to share the meaning behind the choice of the cover of the book. It is inspired by the French film “La Haine’’, as well as one of my favorite films, reflects my adolescence and the guiding sentiment that accompanied it: hatred; but it also wants to push the reader to go deep inside me, without stopping on the surface and discovering what lies behind a hard face.
The book does not tell of hate, on the contrary, it tells of how hatred vented in creativity can teach ourselves and others.
