Title A name given to the resource Tower avenue 1788.PER.MCLEAN Subject The topic of the resource 120 Description An account of the resource This project is aimed at highlighting Jamaican natives and their culture through the use of portraiture photography. I will be specifically looking at the Olympic Gardens, a small town in Jamaica where my family and I originated. Olympic Gardens is a western suburb of Kingston, located between the Blue Mountains and Caribbean Sea near the seaport. The participants in this project, many of whom are friends and family members, were mostly photographed on Tower Avenue, a main road in the Olympic Gardens. This gave me a substantial group of people to photograph. I noticed that a drinking culture has developed in the Olympic Gardens, which is not how I remember the community being when I was younger. There now seems to be several bars scattered around the area. I took photos of many of these places, such as the popular ‘Angela’s Bar’. Title A name given to the resource Halo Tango Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Diane Bielik Description An account of the resource A fictional photographic narrative told from a single found object -a small framed charcoal portrait of a woman ‘Mrs Eyles’ made by another woman Betty Steer in 1962. I found it in a Hackney charity shop and took it back to my artist studio, where it began to resonate. In the book an accompanying text imagines the act of these two women coming together, one to draw the other to sit. And contemplates ideas of unity, solidarity, the sisterhood and quieter forms of feminist action or resistance. Part still life, part landscape and part found imagery this series has evolved to form a cryptic story, set within a claustrophobic domestic stage. Consisting of photographs and drawings, the project was born out of the unlikely friendship between the two collaborators - queer artists Diogo Duarte and Jessica Mitchell. The 'Sour-Puss' is a character based on real-life Jessica and real-life Diogo, resulting in a composite of both collaborators' life experiences.
