<text>Photographs from my first ever trip to Japan – exploring Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka in October 2019. The work aims to reflect the excitement I felt growing up, dreaming of Tokyo from the other side of the world. Looking back at the images now (particularly since the pandemic), my time there feels like a dream, the neon-drenched streets look too perfect. I think of the images as something ‘hyper-real’, a blend of fiction and reality that is impossible to separate. The book is 24-pages, singer sewn with black thread. The tall, thin format references both traditional Japanese script and the vertiginous nature of the Tokyo metropolis. </text>

<text>By observing and making imagery of the natural world around me, I have become a collector—I am gathering together images whose subjects are often scattered or widespread. Like Jazz, these images exist through improvisation, syncopation, and rhythm. Their meaning is developed through their own fluidity and abstraction. But also, this imagery is rooted in memory and my desire for the past to go away. Through organization and curation, I am able to redefine my own history.

The images are paired with vignettes of writing that explore the loss of a relationship, the loss of what home means, and the feeling of being unmoored. I spent the last ten years of my life drifting, and this series is an exploration of feeling lost within that physical and emotional landscape. The figures in the book are representative of metaphors that look at astrology, myth, and symbolism.</text>

<text>An intimate story of a relationship lived with a third entity - invisible illness. It explores my journey as both husband and photographer trying to understand my wife’s condition. A love story of empathy and passion, frustration and laughter. The book uses a breadth of photographs from a 13 year period; both images that are poignantly medical related and candid moments of joy and intimacy.

I started photographing Zara when we first met. Images of nights out, eating and kissing were soon joined by images of flare ups and hospital visits. She lives with conditions that cause constant pain and which lead to life often feeling like it lacks cohesion and order. They join us as silent partners in our relationship with each other, and our wider world. </text>

Five years later Péter Kollányi’s poetic images of the red mud catastrophe remind us to recall one of the most frightening environmental disasters. On a tranquil October day at Ajka alumina plant in Hungary, a dyke suddenly burst and 1 million cubic metres of toxic red mud poured out of the storage pond, causing the immediate evacuation of two villages. Residents had only a few minutes to leave and most of them could never return home. The mud painted everything with all shades of red – what remained was solely chaos and silence.

For over a year the Hungarian documentary photographer had shot images of the ghost villages before the abandoned houses were knocked down. His award-winning photo series systematically pursued to find vanishing marks of human existence, creating an elegiac refrain between the post- apocalyptic view and passing life.</text>
