<text>A Kickstarter campaign and my credit card put me on the road in the summer of 2016 while Ford and GTB were kind enough to loan me a Mustang, and during a 5 week period I travelled over 8000 miles across small town USA and met up with Mustang owners. I conducted interviews and heard often heartfelt and very personal stories. Among the people I met were a racer from Alabama who strapped on his gun before stepping out of his house for a chat; a ‘real Daisy Duke’ from Colorado; a mother who was barred from driving demolition derby for being too aggressive; and Bruce and Dave, friends who were still fixing the same cars together 30 years on.

I drove a total of 181 hours, zigzagging through 26 states from Michigan in the north, to North Carolina in the east, Arizona in the south and as far west as Nevada; I met people in 15 of these. We connected via social media, people referred me to their friends, and I knocked on doors when I saw a Mustang (or two!) parked outside.</text>

<text>In 2020, research carried out by Royal Holloway University
of London estimated that 94,000 microplastics pass through some parts of the River Thames in London per second. The severity of this form of pollution was amplified by the United Nations who stated that 51 trillion microplastic
particles litter the worlds oceans and compared this to the scale of outer space; that this quantity is 500 times the amount of stars in our galaxy. This is problematic, as a comparative statement such as this is abstract and can subsequently perpetuate passivity, which is often the response when presented with issues of climate change and environmental catastrophe. Much like our perception of aquatic environments and outer space, the reality of these issues feel alien to us.

Using this comparison as a centralised theme, Immersion explores microplastics of the River Thames. Water from the river was collected and combined with broken-down plastics that had washed up on the foreshore and were used to replicate the process of the degradation of plastics. Film negatives of photographs of the river, taken underwater, were soaked in this combination until all emulsion was removed. The remaining film base was then scanned to produce a series of abstract images that visualise the United Nations comparison of microplastics of our planet’s oceans to the stars in our galaxy. </text>

<text>Sumo is a collaborative project between Photographer Tom Moran and Set Designer Nazuna Akao. The conversation started in February 2020 to create a still-life interpretation of Sumo and the project continued remotely during national lockdown, with Nazuna sending materials, sketches and instructions to Tom’s studio. It was finally completed in-person in early 2021.

The aim of the project is to distill and convey the forces of weight, strength, tension, power and release that occur in a Sumo bout. The materials used reflect the materials used in making a Sumo ring such as clay, ropes, and straw and also food as this is very important in providing the wrestlers with their energy. All sets were created without adhesives so in many of the images the distribution of weight and balance creates the tension between the objects which holds them together or apart.

The images were combined with text to create a fold-out Zine. Designer Rachel Bungey drew inspiration from old Sumo magazines from Japan, incorporating design elements to add another layer to the project. Japanese characters have been used to subtly link the text and images. The idea of the fold-out Zine is that it can be equally at home on the wall as on the bookshelf and is not only an aesthetic project but can also be informative.</text>

<text>Olde Kensington, a small neighborhood just north of Center City Philadelphia, was predominantly a post-industrial area when I moved in, yet ominous signs of imminent change seemed to indicate that the fate of the place rested in other hands. Muddling my way through the unfamiliar streets on foot, the city seemed to push and pull me in this direction or that one, like it was leading me somewhere. Sometimes I resisted, others I followed, but I never caught a glimpse of my secret guide, who insisted on remaining shrouded in the empty spaces of the city. As a record of these ambulations, this work limns the tension between the extant and the imminent, the intervalic experience of living in a city in flux, and a complicated relationship to place.</text>

<text>Love at last sight is a book that combines dance and photography. The project originates from the vision of several people to the question: what is your image of a happy relationship? The answers, recorded in words in the book, are uniquely easy to visualize. What the author pictured instead was the very opposite. With the help of two dancers, two children, and an elaborated mise-en-scène, she staged the less desired side of romantic relationships.
The performers of these choreography are the dancers Pedro Mendes and Sandra Rosado and the two children, Mariana Mendes and Francisco Miranda. The choreographer and dancer Teresa Simas determined the sequence of the images, obeying a choreographic order.
Following a holistic approach to her projects, the author created each stage of the process.</text>

The Great Fiat Hunt was a slow trip from London through Italy over three months in our own 1967 Fiat 500 “Gina, searching for one of its most iconic vehicles, and the people who own and love them. What was once a ‘hey wouldn’t it be cool to…’ idea years ago, turned into the Great Fiat Hunt. The book is hardcover, and with 208 pages it is a mixture of selected stories accompanied with photographs of our time on the road and interviews with fellow Fiat 500 owners. It is written in English and Italian</text>
