<text>In Brooklyn, New York there's a place called Coney Island. It's theme park down at the beach (you probably know it). A place filled with colors, sunlight (on sunny days), people of all kind and a really BIG Ferris wheel. It's quite and iconic place.

In August 2019 Aarhus, Jutland (Denmark) hosted Tall Ship's Races. It transformed the whole harbor. Big white sails and colorful flags waving from the ships in the wind. The sound of distant live music. Foreign people speaking in foreign languages. The smell of street food. Sunshine. and a really BIG Ferris wheel.
Almost like Coney Island I think. </text>

I keep saying to people that what we’ve been through will be a story to tell our children. Creating a publication that puts what we are going through into a physical object that represents that experience was my primary goal. The book is loose bound with no order to represent the chaos of several lockdowns and the multiple rules that changed often. We haven’t known what to expect during this whole experience and we have each had to abide by different rules and figure out different parts of our lives - be that negotiating losing our job, moving to online learning, not being able to see our loved ones or the hundreds of other things. This book is yours to make what you want of it, to read what you want to read. Everyone’s experience of COVID-19 has been different and therefore everyone’s experience of Normal Led To This will also be different.</text>

I started this project back in March 2020 when the first lockdown was enforced in London, though at the time I didn't expect it would become a project. All the photos are taken from March~September last year. The process of producing this project is a personal journey to explore the intertwined relationship between gratitude and happiness. The uncertainty of the future is intimidating and frustrating, but I hope the photographs in this book can not only bring a little warmth and comfort, but also encourage thinking and conversation about the way we live our lives. </text>

<text>During the lockdown period due the Covid virus. We all where constricted in our homes and borders.

Before this all happened. I was planning to travel around and make a photo project. But these plans all felt down the drain.

This made me wonder. What can I do now, how can I still make a body of work in these times?

I’ve had all these dreams to travel far away and making photographs. Just me and my camera, back to how it started for me.

But being stuck at home, made me realize. That I actually know very little about my own country. I always lived in city’s. And especially living in Amsterdam (where I live now) you likely will accommodate in a bubble. A capital bubble.

This almost makes you blind for what is happening outside of that bubble. Recognizing this, made me wonder how the ‘outside’ was looking like. How do the birds sing, people think, live and where do my actual roots coming from.

So I borrowed a bike, because with my city bike I would not get that far. Bought a small tent and left my small apartment in Amsterdam. Into the world of flatlands, unpredictable weather, water, cows and stubborn but kind people.

The series became a on the road photo project. It made me look from a different angle to the country that I live in.

With the photo’s I try to take you with me on this trip. I hope that when you look at the images you almost can feel te cold of the rain, hear the sound of the birds and sense the smell of the soup that has been on the stove the whole day.

If you take a look at this project I think you can find a part of it that can be documentary, but also a part of it feels poetic to me. And that is what I love about photography. There always be this thin line between reality and fiction.</text>
