<text>Wine Doors of Florence brings remnants of a distant life to the present day. The collection depicts a long-forgotten element of daily Renaissance life in the city. The wine doors were “serving hatches” that allowed the local nobility to sell their wines directly from cellars located throughout the city. They date from the Medici period, around 1532, and were in use until the early 1900s.

There are 146 documented doors inside the ancient city walls. The passage of time has seen them repurposed as restaurant menu shelves, door intercoms, and letterboxes. Some have become an evolving canvas for creative graffiti artists. Others are simply ignored—integrated into the face of air-conditioning ducts or gas meter cupboards.

Wandering the streets and back alleys of one of Italy’s most iconic cities, Italian gastronomic culture scholar and photographer Robbin Gheesling brings to life this often overlooked, if not entirely unseen part of Florence. The result is a glimpse of the undiscovered. Her photos capture actual doorways into Florence’s history that have nearly vanished amongst the distractions of a modern tourist mecca.</text>

<text>This companion book set explores the nostalgia of the English seaside throughout the seasons, from the somber beauty of winter months to its restored splendour in the glorious days of summer.

There is a melancholy about the English seaside in winter. No matter what Mother Nature throws at it, there is a resilience that enables it to resurrect its full magnificence in summer months.

It goes into hibernation, it falls into slumber and sleeps dormant like a perennial plant, just to flourish when the sun and warmth come back. Like trees that are bare and stark in winter. But in the summer they become beautiful, vibrant and everything we love about them.

<text>At the end of 2011, Peruvian national news broke a story about a series of barbaric murders that took place deep in the Peruvian Amazon in a region called Balsapuerto, home to the indigenous Shawi. In a period of just ten months, 14 traditional Shawi healers (or ‘curanderos’, as they are known locally) were reported to have become victims of a wave of brutal killings. According to local reports, the suspected orchestator behind these murders was Balsapuerto’s acting Mayor at the time, Alfredo Torres Rucoba. Accused of carrying out a politically motivated campaign of witch killings he, and his brother Augusto, earnt themselves that local nickname ‘Los Matabrujos’. The Banished of Balsapuerto is an ongoing investigation into these deaths and the theories behind them, using a mix of on-location interviews, previously unreleased police and court materials, excerpts from local press coverage as well as original photographs and illustrations and in-depth writing.

<text>With Monochrome Eyes was published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name, curated by Tom Lovelace in the Borough Road Gallery in February 2020.

With Monochrome Eyes presents the work of sixteen lens-based artists, bringing a focus onto the use of greyscale within contemporary photographic practice. Each artist has contributed one black and white work and one colour work, connected through ideas, negotiations and depictions of the body. In the exhibition these works were displayed in two separated but connected spaces in a gallery bisected by a slatted wall. In the book the works are printed on different paperstocks.

The exhibition and publication are part of a larger research inquiry, investigating the continued use of greyscale as a mode of representation, existing alongside, or in opposition, to the technicolour landscape of digital technology in which we are immersed. </text>
