<text>For more than five centuries the fortunes of the Niger Delta have been closely tied to that of the global economy. For its slave ports, then palm oil industry, and most recently, through the discovery of crude oil in the 1950s. Oil multinationals soon came to the fore, working in alliance with a local elite to strip the region of its wealth and despoil it. At the receiving end are the region's impoverished inhabitants: left with a poisoned environment, faced with a government that never cares and victims of rival armed militant groups laying claim to territories.

George Osodi is an internationally acclaimed Nigerian photographer, who has spent over six years documenting his country, hoping to bring attention to not only the rest of the world, but the people of Nigeria, what is happening. A country still so rich in natural resources and beauty, but where many of its people have been left with nothing.

Oil was first discovered in the Niger Delta in the 1950s, and soon after a powerful international oil industry developed in the region. Nigeria today is the world’s 5th largest exporter of oil to the US. However, the people that live in this oil-rich land are poor, and the environment that surrounds them is deadly: oil leaks and explosions abound, whilst the water supply is heavily contaminated.

In recent years, local guerrillas in balaclavas and speed boats, armed with enormous rounds of ammunition, have taken on the oil companies. They demand the right to live in their own clean and unpolluted land, and that the delta is restored to it’s former environmental richness.

These dramatic images document for the first time the extent of environmental damage and the daily conditions the people living there are forced to endure, revealing not only to the world, but also to Nigeria itself, what exactly is happening in their country... a nation where riches are being taken from the land and very little given back to the people.

<text>The unfolding events in the run up to the Iraq war had given Tom Hurndall, a 21-year-old British photojournalist, an increased curiosity and desire to journey to the Middle East. In February 2003, initially as an observer alongside the Human Shields, he left with a passion to make a difference, to record and photograph the truth for himself.

We follow his journey first from Baghdad, then to Amman and the Al-Rweished refugee camp in Jordan, and finally on to the town of Rafah in Gaza close to the Egyptian border, where US peaceworker Rachel Corrie had been killed just weeks previously.

On April 11th, unarmed and wearing an internationally recognizable orange peacekeeper jacket, he was severely wounded while carrying Palestinian children to safety. He died nine months later in a London hospital.

The book follows Tom’s life and thoughts in the final weeks leading up to the shooting. Motivated by a sense of injustice and striving to remain objective we are drawn into his increasingly serious photographs and words, through extracts from his diary, emails and poems.

It is realised through collaboration with the Hurndall family on the eighth anniversary of that fateful day, and follows the 2008 Channel 4 film-documentary ‘The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall’.

<text>Fabio Bucciarelli is a freelance photojournalist who has followed the story of refugees fleeing the revolutions and wars that followed the 'Arab Spring' since they began in 2011.

When the first refugees - immigrant workers from Bangladesh and sub-saharan countries - were fleeing from violence in the Benghazi region of Libya, Bucciarelli recognized the tremendous suffering and intractable situation facing them. There were hundreds of men and women struggling to flee the conflict: a river of souls who came to Libya to work and found themselves in limbo, in a foreign country torn by war with no way of returning home.

From these first encounters with refugees, Bucciarelli has dedicated himself to documenting the causes and consequences of this stream of humanity fleeing conflict. His work has taken him from Sicily to Syria, Libya, Turkey, Iraq, Tunisia, Egypt, Serbia, Macedonia and to the small Greek island of Lesbos where refugees arrived from Turkey by the boatload every day.

Bucciarelli calls his book “The Dream” because, without a dream to sustain them, the people who make up this remarkable stream of humanity could never make the torturous journey in search of refuge. "The Dream" tells their stories, reveals their humanity and shows the strength of people who are sustained by a dream to be free of war, to find safety, to recover their dignity and to build meaningful lives again.

Bucciarelli has received the Robert Capa Gold Medal for his work from Syria and many other awards including Picture of Year in 2015 in a special category “Exodus” addressing the refugee crisis. He was selected twice as a finalist for the FotoEvidence Book Award.

“The Dream” is a hardcover book measuring 24 x 33 cm, containing186 black and white images, with an introduction by Peter Bouckaert, Emergencies Director for Human Rights Watch and Fabio Bucciarelli.</text>

<text>Three years ago, journalist and filmmaker Elizabeth McCafferty met a man with a passion so unusual, that she became fixated on documenting every inch of it. Since the eighties, Trevor Cunningham has collected unused sick bags from every flight he’s ever been on. Although his collection is weird to some, his obsession with sick bags has more sentimental value than most would expect. In 1989, Trevor’s 32 year old boss, Peter, tragically passed away at work from a brain aneurysm. After discovering his collection while clearing out his desk draws, he decided to carry on the collection in Peter's honour, a small tribute to keep his memory and journey alive that lives on today through Trevor's stories in this book.

“Sicko” is a self published book by Elizabeth McCafferty, typed via typewriter and handwritten notes only. It’s a celebration of cherished collections, the people behind them and a chance to encourage people to look at the mundane a little bit differently. https://youtu.be/fhhp-bMxmpU?si=QQ5nxbUzSA90khj8</text>

<text>Throughout 1905, amateur photographer C. G. Hine spent his free hours roaming the length of New York’s Broadway, capturing the architectural oddities, street people, and botanical life of that storied street. He assembled these remarkable photographs into a hand-made, three-volume album titled From the Skyscraper to the Wildflower.
Ten years ago, historian Nick Yablon stumbled upon the album in the collections of the New York Historical Society. He now brings the album to a wider public in a new photobook, published by Columbia University Press. Through a series of short essays accompanying each photograph, Yablon reveals how Hine recorded a street under threat from developers, reformers, and others seeking to refashion it.</text>

<text>My work moves between documentary observation, conceptual thinking and image-making rooted in atmosphere and stories. This approach can be applied to anything I do. I’m drawn to incompleteness and to the tension between what is revealed and what remains unresolved. The idea of the fragment is central to the way I think – how individual fragments, when placed next to one another, can create an entirely new narrative or emotional meaning. That’s why I like to think of myself more as a collector than a traditional photographer.

I often think of images in a way that is very close to writing. Visual language, similarly to words, carries its own rhythm, symbolism, emotional codes. I’m fascinated by how meaning is constructed through association and sequencing, and by the way images can function almost like sentences within a larger narrative.</text>
