<text>Stephen Gills photographs are devoid of sentiment or affectation rather than showing the pigeon in our world, they take us into theirs. The lens noses in under bridges, squeezes through cracks and scopes out crannies. These are images that bestow on the despised flying rats that oft-trumpeted but seldom realised attribution: their dignity: here are pigeons making their lives in a natural landscape, for, whatever else humans may be, we are animals too, and as such our buildings are analogous to the earthworks of termites, and our bridges to the dams of beavers. Its this inversion of the anthropocentric view that makes Gills images so compelling that, and another revelation; for, fluffed-up and blinking, in the dust and the grime and the rust and rime, we see those mythical beings: the young pigeons. I suspect its because weve entered this otherworldly realm that we find these juveniles to be arousing not of pity, but a grudging respect far from being scroungers, or undeserving poor, these doughty birds survive and even thrive, despite barbs and more barbs of outrageous human fortune. They are, like the urban foxes, the economic migrants of the animal world: forced into the cities to scratch a living as best they may, and before we condemn them we would do well to ask ourselves this question: would we do as well were the tables to be turned?

<text>My two years as a steward at the pitch gate of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium unfolded against the backdrop of some of the club’s most turbulent recent seasons. From the same gate each matchday, I watched Tottenham finish 17th in two consecutive seasons, narrowly escaping relegation on the final game in 2026. What may appear to be an ordinary role offered me an uncommon perspective on football — not merely as a sport, but as a living tradition shaped by loyalty, memory, and hope.</text>

I spend 7 years working as a researcher in Particle Physics, first as a PhD student and then as a postdoctoral researcher. During this time, I visited and worked in several laboratories throughout Europe and made connections with many colleagues.
At the same time, I spend these years feeling extremely anxious due to the lack of job security and the lack of stability was always at the back of my mind.
I started photographing the laboratories, the places that were familiar to me. Documenting my journey was a way to deal with the anxiousness and create permanent memories.
"Places of Particles" is the result of this process, the collection of all the buildings I briefly inhabited and pictures of items that used to be trivial but are now precious memories.</text>

<text>'Platform 1' is a collaborative project by photographers Saffron Liberty & Naomi Davison.

"We began this project during the UK’s final national lockdown, inspired by our newly heightened sense of curiosity in the people that surround us; born from months of isolation and social distancing. It had highlighted to us just how easy it is to paint an idea of a person, from the smallest of details they portray.

We realised this concept felt much like being at a train station. Where you nosily observe the people that pass you by, your watchfulness serving as procrastination whilst you wait for your train to pull in.

This is when we began to create a series of our own fictional hyper-real characters, all waiting for a train. Using ourselves as models, we took on their personas one by one with the aid of costume, prop and make-up.

The characters are full of clues suggestive of who they are, whilst also retaining a sense of ambiguity, forcing the viewer to make their own assumptions. In the same way we all do, even subconsciously, when observing a stranger for a fleeting moment."</text>
