<text>Record is Stefan Dotter’s first monograph, documenting natural habitats and indigenous communities in the Amazon, Borneo and Madagascar. From 2021, he undertook a three-year journey to explore the relationship between humans and nature, photographing remote regions while working closely with the non-profit Health In Harmony. Designed by Jonny Lu Studio, the book draws from natural science documents and field journals, pairing Dotter’s prints with essays, reflections and notes.

Themes of transparency, time and interconnectedness shape the book’s tactile form: instead of a hardcover, delicate semi-transparent papers wrap the artwork plates, echoing the fragile layers that protect our environment. A special edition of 100 copies includes a custom box and a hand-printed chromogenic print.

All profits support Health In Harmony, and the project was made possible through a grant from Future Being.</text>

<text>“Abandoned Villages of Hong Kong”, is an invitation to explore the forgotten corners of this vibrant city, and to discover the haunting beauty that lies hidden within its parks and islands.

For centuries before the colonial era, Hong Kong’s population dwelled in isolated villages, subsisting mainly on farming or fishing. When better opportunities arose during the 1960s, many villagers found work in restaurants overseas or in the urban factories of Hong Kong. Meanwhile, their countryside houses - sometimes entire villages - were simply abandoned and left to be reclaimed by nature. Stefan’s photographs breathe new life into the crumbling facades and overgrown relics, allowing readers to witness the enduring charm of these abandoned homes.

With its documentary approach, this collection of photographs features many of Hong Kong’s most isolated settlements and is a testament to Stefan’s passion for capturing the essence of disappearing places. His careful research and deep appreciation for the subject shine through in every carefully composed image, unveiling the hidden narratives of structures frozen in time.

A foreword by Douglas Young sheds light on the architectural and social context of the photographs. Two further essays include some touching and highly personal histories by erstwhile village residents, with heart-warming recollections of village life experienced decades ago.

“Abandoned Villages of Hong Kong” can be seen as a tribute to the resilience of the Hong Kong people, but also the impermanence of our existence. Such photographs serve as a poignant reminder of both the transient nature of life, and the indelible mark left by those who came before us.</text>

These show a form of self-provision of working-class housing which begins with a simple timber-framed dwelling. Over the last 60 years most of these simple, cheap houses have evolved into desirable residences. In the process they have a acquired an idiosyncratic style that gives them considerable charm. Looking beyond this aesthetic appeal they provide evidence of a method that could again be used to allow people to make and acquire their own homes.

views of young people on the subject of dreams, opportunities and
aspirations.
FED FROM THE FUTURE also follows the making of the film, and
through it a search for a protagonist: a representative of contemporary
British youth. Stella meets a boy named Alex aka Houdini, who
explains the strong and stoic philosophy he’s adopted to make his
dreams a reality. He agrees to co-write a script with Stella and be
the face of REVERIE. After many iterations of the script was written,
and after two days of shooting Alex walks out of the shoot without
saying a word and Stella is left to finish the film.
Through interviews, photography and artwork, FED FROM THE
FUTURE showcases the 50 young people who finished what Alex
started. It uncovers what Alex stood for, and how his final act was
testimony to his own self-determination. It inspires young people to
find personal autonomy, meaning and motivation during these turbulent
times.

<text>The book is a collection of my work made over the span of about 5 years. The title comes from a reimagining and reauthorising of memory and childhood. I had realised I had lost a chunk of memory due to childhood trauma and wanted to reassert it via my work and had also realised the themes which had ran throughout my practice all along. It is rooted in collective joy as resistance and our ability to shape our narratives against forces in control. From politics to family abuse, this book subverts the sadness into a fantasy of costume, rave and working class narratives. Class is rooted in the book as I explore what it means to make authentically working class imagery in an industry that is obsessed with the visuals yet condemns our actual existence.</text>

<text>Hope you’re feeling better (my little world!) is the second book/party bag made by London based artist, Stephanie Francis-Shanahan. It is a tribute to the process of finding chosen families and the joy we can receive in feeling unconditional love for the first time, explored through image making and text. Each book is accompanied with a 1/1 drawing, sweets, a key ring that encases a flower from the artist’s garden and stickers. It is rooted in understanding our human need to express all types of emotion but ultimately hopes to bring a smile to the reader.</text>

<text>The book/bag ‘To be heard and to be held (I am building my castle, 2022)’ is the last in a trilogy called 'jaws of life' and each has explored a different emotion at its core-the work aims to help myself and others hold room for the specific emotion (joy/woe/strife) and encourages discussion on how we hold these feelings in the body. This edition explores strife/anger but with an underlying desire to release these repressed emotions and what the result of this action can be. The images and graphic text collages contain a sense of motion as most work was made as a stream of consciousness release charged with feeling and is an edition of 78 copies. Each book comes in a party bag format of a green organza bag and The Simpsons badge attached containing an original 1/1 drawing in a stamped envelope, sweets, fridge magnet and a handmade keyring. </text>
