Despite increasing awareness of the unfolding ecological crisis on our planet, NASA are inviting commercial partners to join them in a mission to mine the moon. It seems odd to me to be able to look at the moon and see only untapped minerals. I wanted to look at the landscape through this cold, calculating gaze. To render it alien, unfamiliar again. In fact, bathed in unnatural light, despite the post-apocalyptic overtones, a strange beauty endures in these darkened landscapes. Skies darken to a chemical haze; black rocks become glittering ore; water becomes a liquid metal. They reflect the tension between the constituent and the aggregate: between the mineral - that which humans seek to separate out; and the landscape - resistant, whole.</text>

<text> Orion, Fábio Miguel Roque latest book is a deep personal journey through the artist past months and all that comes out with it. Like building a new constellation, Orion is connected with the artist
revious book — Everything Lay Still. It's seen as a continuation of the same body of work traveling from the past to the present embracing the future.

In this book, he works towards a clear duality between himself as part of na inner territory and the outside world dealing with death, loss, life and love.

The stars have been since the early ages a guidance point and in this series, Roque’s uses this notion as a shield to guide himself. Always remembering to look up to approach life.

On the other hand, the artist worked around the Greek myth of Orion. This giant hunter became blind and by the power of Helios — the God of the Sun, got his vision back. Orion, claimed that he would
kill every animal in the world, but Gaea — the goddess of the Earth — angered by Orion's claims, sent a scorpion to kill him. Upon Orion's demise, Zeus turned him into a constellation with his two
dogs (Canis Minor and Canis Major), along with his killer scorpion.
Regarding, Orion’s myth and making an analogy between this creature and the Photographer — a hunter for images and blinded/healed by the light that comes within.

<text>A portrait of an area and the inherent social interactions between youth, crime and the law, this book describes Hackney and east London, but also provides a commentary on a wider narrative familiar to all urban nocturnal clashes.Robin Maddock spent three years accompanying local police going about their work in Hackney, east London. His photographs uncovered both a seedy nocturnal narrative, meandering through a young, and often underage, world of drugs and crime, but also a wider perspective of society and its interactions with the law today. An endless cycle of raids and arrests that never make the local newspapers, drugs are the most prized aspect of the raid, valued equally by both sides. Usually glamorous in their absence, they become visible only through confrontations, weapons, and a tide of visitors to the house of the parents.

Glimpses of arrests and domestic and drug paraphernalia, set against the transient backdrop of fleeting Hackney street corners and stairwells, it will be familiar to but a few. The series shows a cast of characters on both sides of the law playing out their scenes with the mundane daily grind of a resigned and well-played ritual.

Iain Sinclair, the esteemed writer on the history of London who lives in Hackney and is also the recent author of a major survey of the area, has provided the introduction to the book.</text>

<text>Our Last, looks back on the memories I had with my Taid (Grandad) growing up visiting his home in North Wales with my cousins. This Project was triggered from the passing of my Taid in January 2023, turning my grief into inspiration and a way to process all of the amazing memories I shared in North Wales with my family.

The project includes archive images of my family and the area, and new images made with my cousin in response to these ideas of memory, family and loss. I combined 3D elements to my work to explore new technology and "fragmented" memories visually aswell as creating "ghosts" using garments I created for the project to fully embrace the concept.

The title "Our Last" comes from an archive image of my Taid and his wife, on the back he wrote "Our last summer together 2002." My Grandmother passed away from cancer that summer, and so I thought this would be a beautiful tribute to him and his words.</text>

<text>Our Lockdown Garden is a photographic monograph by documentary photographer Ruth Toda-Nation, giving an insight into the lives of our most senior citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic year. Toda-Nation presents a series of socially distanced portraits and interviews made in collaboration with octogenarians and nonagenarians — members of the silent generation — in the garden of a sheltered retirement facility, where her father is a resident.

By fusing journalistic photography, poetic reflection, and handwritten notes from the residents themselves, Toda-Nation highlights the voices of this generation, whose invisibility was amplified during the pandemic, offering a poignant and deeply personal documentation of life during an extraordinary time.

While members of the government were disregarding COVID rules and untested patients were being sent back to care homes, many of our eldest citizens were deprived of their loved ones and died alone. Inspired by the words of Junichiro Tanizaki, “were it not for the shadows, there would be no beauty,” the book endeavours to highlight the strength and stoicism of our eldest citizens, whilst being a reminder to us all that beauty can be found in the darkest of places.

“Through this work I hope to capture a feeling of nostalgia, reminiscent of the storytelling we all love and associate with our grandparents — those special stories of wisdom and resilience that we will treasure forever. I hope the work captures the mood of this historic moment and will serve as a window back in time for future generations.”
