<text>My family's story began in Awali, an oil town in Bahrain. Modelled on an American suburban vision, Awali had everything: a hospital, a church, a library, a post office, a cricket club and even a golf course. My grandfather moved there in 1945, seeking new opportunities for his family. It's where my parents met and where I was born.

In the first nine years of my childhood, I lived in seven different countries and attended eight schools, making the question "Where are you from?" complicated. My father tragically passed away after a brief illness, which changed the course of life for my mother and me forever. Though he died when I was ten, the full impact of the grief only struck me years later.

In 2023, I returned to Bahrain for the first time since leaving Awali in 1965, hoping to explore my family's history and my early years. It was a journey that profoundly reconnected me with my childhood in unexpected and revealing ways. There, I discovered two significant traces of my identity: my baptismal record displayed in Awali Church and a framed tournament record for my father, still hanging in the local golf club. Seeing these documents on public display was an overwhelming discovery that affirmed my origins and identity.</text>

<text>Humans live, age, and eventually face their seemingly inevitable death. For all living beings, death is the immutable constant – a natural law – to which all life succumbs. But what happens when this law loses its validity?

Several hundred people worldwide are putting their faith in the promise of a future technology designed to make their death reversible. In the meantime, their bodies, or optionally just their brains, are stored in nitrogen-cooled tanks at minus 196 degrees Celsius.

For his graduation work, Janick Entremont delves into a subject as ancient as humanity itself: death and how we deal with it. In doing so, he not only documents the ambitious experiment called cryonics, but also searches for clues to the existential question raised by what it enables: what is the value of time if it does not end?</text>

"I'm Here If You'll Have Me" is an introspective project that attempts to look at our relationships to ourselves, and how each individual 'self' can be realised through the abstraction of the stimuli of everyday life.

The work is emotionally led, suggesting a desire for an open heart and mind, in order to feel a connection to self and to the collective.

<text>Duran' is a calendar that explores the interaction between humans and nature through the subjective sensations of the authors regarding the changing seasons, the reinterpretation of familiar surroundings, and the cultural code of Belarusian tradition.

The name of the calendar comes from two words: "du", which means "two", and "ra", which means "sun", and together they form the word "duran'" meaning two suns. This does not exist in reality, but everything can be simultaneously real and fantastical, if we suppose, that what we are accustomed to is deceptive. We used to call a fool someone, who is stupid or whose opinion does not coincide with the majority, but in this context "duran'" is someone, who thinks differently, and is not necessarily wrong, but has their own perspective on things.

Therefore, the project's authors reinterpret the objective reality, using the familiar and established form of the calendar, to take a fresh look at the concept of the relationship between humans and nature.

The central character is the depersonalized human, each one of us, a part of nature that cyclically changes from month to month along with it. Not only the human is a part of nature, but all its derivatives exist inseparably, not always in harmony, but always together (the unity of the urban and the natural). In a sense, garbage has become part of this reality of nature; it is our objectivity. By incorporating garbage, we remind of its existence, and each observer is free to choose their own attitude towards it.

The concept of the unity of humans and nature is well traced in Belarusian tradition, where many significant stages of human life are connected with nature. Therefore, here you can find imitations of a goat mask for the Kalyady, the wedding attire of the bride, the Kupalle wheel, traditional headwear like the namitka and etc as yet another reminder of the deep connection between human and nature.

The book is infinite in its structure and concept, just like the changing seasons and the parallel transformations of human life. The cover is cut from a pattern of a Belarusian traditional shirt, with a tag and a hand-printed ink imitation ornament.

The project was created by two artists, Nastа Kanapelka, working in the direction of trash-plant art [author's], and Alice Gurinovich, working in the direction of contemporary photography, so the project exists at the intersection of several techniques and approaches, creating a new perspective on the issue.</text>

<text>Chao Ah Gua started from a conversation between two of my friends, Z and J. J grew up in England, has been out to his parents for a couple of years, and is also in a long-term monogamous relationship. In contrast, Z grew up in Singapore and leads a double life; his parents know nothing of his active sex life and are still under the perception that he is straight. J had made the passing comment to Z, encouraging him to come out to his parents, noting that they would eventually understand and accept him for who he is. However, Z rejected the proposal as he couldn’t bear the potential repercussions.

Contemporary gay culture has become shaped to fit Western ideals. Its emphasis on individuality clashes with the collective values upheld in many Asian countries, which results in these communities homogenising gay experiences, having perceived it to be another form of cultural dominance from the Western world. The promotion of a homogenous gay experience feeds into local societal rejection and political erasure of gay narratives in their local communities, even when there is evidence to show their assimilation within these societies historically.

The gap in representation created by this erasure also results in Asian gay men turning toward Western gay narratives as a framework to navigate their sexuality, with many choosing to abandon their other personal identities or lead double lives. Furthermore, it also reinforces the hegemonic queer narrative powered by Western publications like GayTimes and Attitude that will continue to influence the next generation of Asian gay men living in Orient societies.

What does that then mean for the gay men living in these spaces? Are they supposed to choose one-half of themselves over the other? Is it an impossibility for Asian gay men to co-exist with their heterosexual and Occidental counterparts? We must start to find different ways of championing equality locally, to look for new ways of intertwining our traditional upbringing and sexual identities so that future generations of Asian gay people can have nuanced examples that they can look up to and follow – something that our predecessors sorely lacked. Chao Ah Gua serves as a beacon of hope to Asian gay men who are unable to see a future for themselves within their Orient communities.</text>

<text>In many Asian countries, homophobia is rooted in ignorance rather than hate, which stems from the lack of visibility. This is made more apparent by laws that censor and limit local portrayals of the LGBTQ community. However, these norms are changing and Asian societies are generally open to dialogue. Highly visible LGBTQ events generally rely on 'loud' approaches like protesting to gain support and momentum. This may work better in Western contexts where individualism is emphasised, but they do not translate well in an Asian context where obedience, meekness, and collectivism have been ingrained into local culture. Asian LGBTQ communities may find themselves being alienated further within their milieu. How then should one approach advocacy of gay rights in an Asian context?

in another world/ 假如在另个世界 trials an alternate approach, delving into my journey as an Asian gay man and juxtaposing these experiences to those of Charlie, a pansexual man from Lincoln. Despite coming from geographies worlds apart, Charlie and I share many similar queer milestones from ice skating, to queer allyship, first sexual encounters, first pride, STI testing, enduring hate crimes, exes, and more. Harnessing the quietness of our lived experiences, in another world aims to create tolerance and understanding with new allies, eventually leading to acceptance. It also seeks to remind gay men to honor their promise of inclusivity, reminding us how we are a lot more connected than we know despite our physical appearances and circumstances.</text>

Based on the appreciation of drafts, unfinished and unwanted thoughts, images, texts in any ways made by people. We are here to collect thoughts, congrats creators and publish creations in a magazine form.

In March 2024, the duo found a bag of paper works situated in the closet containing both finished and test darkroom black and white photography practices. This discovery inspired them to launch their first magazine issue, showcasing these earliest works. The inaugural issue of the magazine serves as a home for their process and experiments based photography practice, presenting Magioil Xing's earliest collaborations alongside left-over test sheets. It also includes a casual conversation between the two as they reflect on these documents two years after their creation. The magazine embodies the duo's philosophy of collecting and archiving unwanted, unfinished, and unpublished thoughts and images, giving them new life and context.</text>

<text>Gradually, we grew out of our past, explained away halos and beasts and cities of clouds. History, after all, is written by those that live in the present.

But it’s still there, that old world. Beneath our own, like a first coat of paint. Glinting through chips and scratches.

A dragon’s tail where the TV bumped the wall. Constellations in curtains and hand-blown glass. Ancient actors’ footprints in the dust of vacant stages. Echoes of old in the cracks of the new.

Lingermyth is a collection of those echoes. It depicts a world removed from our own, a world glimpsed in reflections and walls, in old paint and houseplants and long shadows on the ground.

Lingermyth is the product of hundreds of walks and thousands of photographs taken across Cornwall and Devon, U.K., and Costa Blanca, Spain. It was created over the 2021-2022 academic year as a final degree project for Marine & Natural History Photography BA at Falmouth University.</text>
