This book acts as a catalogue and compilation of the images I created during the winter of 2018/19. All images are photographed using daylight only. When I came up with the idea of creating images that resemble icebergs I immediately had some questions in my mind. Will our climate change drastically over the next few decades if we don‘t change our way of living? Will icebergs still be around when my childrens‘ children are born? I felt I needed to create images feeding this irritation, taking images of frozen water and other natural materials to recreate the look of icebergs. Photorealistic images in small scale resembling monumental icebergs, creating the illusion of an arctic landscape. Photography has always been a reference point to reality. This project is a reminder of the fragility of our eco system, especially when looking at the rapid change happening in the polar regions and the development of the global climate. Coming from a documantary photography background, the environment, the way it shapes us and vice versa, is the main focus of my work. I AM is the moment when the first thought or state of consciousness arises. A vortex-like existence where the maelstrom of thoughts slowly gives birth to a new world. I AM can be triggered by a life crisis, an experience, or a vision, yet it undoubtedly broadens our understanding of the multiple dimensions of our existence. I AM is an artistic photo essay that tells my own story. In my world, we inhabit a nondual existence where traditional binaries such as good and evil, dark and light, masculine and feminine do not stand in opposition to each other, but constitute natural and complementary parts of us all. We harbour respect for every living being and understand our task in the eternal cycle of life. I have been inspired by the Neolithic cultures of south-eastern Europe, where a genuine and direct relationship with nature permeated everyday life. The holy cycle of life – birth, death and resurrection – were metaphysical experiences that were rendered intelligible in the shape of Mother Earth, the origin and goal of everything. It was a time when equality existed, before humans began to create gods in accordance with their own interests and to their own advantage. Whether it is merely a myth is less important. This depiction of primeval society has not only served as an inspiration, but it increasingly appears will determine the conditions for our future. As evidence for this society’s existence take, for example, the words mother and sea, which are more or less interchangeable in most primeval cultures. Mara – Mare, the origin of everything – the goal of everything. The water of life – the water of the womb. The sea of infinity. The dramaturgy of this wordless narrative originates from the story of creation. A story which in its basic elements almost without exception is depicted in similar ways in cultures across the world: the origin of the world, the birth of humankind, the fall and rebirth. I have chosen to let the various sources blend to form a unitary experience centred on nature and Mother Earth, rather than depicting literal scenes. With these images, I have aimed to convey a sacred mood letting awe, mystery and various levels of consciousness guide how they’ve come into existence. The images are not a depiction of an external reality, but serve as a medium to convey an inner experience, a way to our collective human subconscious gathered piece by piece over millions of years. I have searched for the likeness of the human figure and symbols in nature, and vice versa. I’ve sought for nature’s shapes inscribed in the human body in order to clarify and emphasise the unity and interdependence of everything. Hence nature becomes an internal experience instead of an external phenomenon. Here we will likewise find the ruthless rampage of evil forces, with Mother Earth biding her time, shackled but indestructible. For the resurrection of Mother Earth and life alike, death and destruction of the past is inevitable. The project tells the unusual story of an oak tree leaf that seeks an answer to the question ‘What happens to leaves when they fall off trees?’. When the coldest and dreariest days of the year come, it is time for leaves to end their active life cycle and make space for the next season's leaves. Similarly, all living organisms, including humans, have a certain life cycle to follow and it is only natural for one to wonder what happens after one dies. Explaining the topic of death to children can be a particularly difficult task that should be done in a gentle manner so that children see death as a part of one's life and are encouraged to think about their deceased family members with love and respect. This unusual tale serves as a starting point for a deeper discussion between an adult and a child around the topic of life after death. Besides digital photographic images, the project includes also work done with other photographic techniques such as a pinhole body cap on a digital camera, reverse lens on a digital camera and a cyanotype print, as well as it includes work from other mediums like handmade paper and a nature sound track, allowing the playfulness and experimentation to further enrich the project and proving an opportunity for a child to interact with the book by actively involving visual sense in combination with textual information and auditory and tactile senses, achieving a more complex engagement with the book. This project illustrates a story with bird and nature photography told in an anthropomorphistic manner, highlighting arbitrary connections in nature that lead to new meanings by combining, layering, cutting, adjusting, rearranging, decolourising, flipping and mirroring digital photographic images to achieve unusual combinations which the viewer can decipher together with the complementing textual information. The project also includes a digital pinhole image, reversed lens image, toned cyanotype, as well as it includes work from other mediums like handmade paper, organic matter and a sound track, allowing the playfulness and experimentation to further enrich the project, and providing an opportunity for children to interact with the story by actively involving visual sense in combination with textual information and auditory and tactile senses, offering a more complex engagement. The Brythonic Legends of Cornwall, Wales and Brittany are my starting point. Geo-mythology is the study of geological events that turn into legends. Brythonic is a group of celtic languages including Welsh, Cornish, and Breton. The Brythonic Legends are The Lowland Hundred (Wales) Kêr-Is (Britany) Lyonesse (Cornwall). The Brythonic legends give us a warning of human inaction. This inaction led to whole lands disappearing under the sea. These Legends are a warning from the past. A warning about rising sea levels leading to cultures and civilisations disappearing. We are in a time when climate anxiety is rising. A fear of climate change and a concern about the survival of human species. There have been many other lost lands historically and later in legends. As climate change occurs Britain will become more tropical. But as well as being the future this is also a view of the past. So a Future-Past, we may return to the days when lions and hippos roamed the banks of the Thames. As climate change returns to Britain, the plants and land will change. We will become a wetter warmer land. The legends of drowned lands are common in many Northern European cultures. They are a historic echo of Doggerland, a submerged land under the North Sea.
