<text>Since the year of 2011, I have been documenting my life into a personal “ A Diary ” project, Month by month, with different analogue cameras. In this ongoing project, I’m learning to explore my surroundings, the way people connect and
are embedded in their surroundings, and the symbiosis between the two. At the end of every month, I develop the film and upload the results onto my website,
where they act as my life’s photo album and which in time began also to show at different solo and group exhibitions, both local and international. For my diary project, I understood that the subjects which interest me the most are individuals and the way they change according to their group or surroundings. This intimate diary project reflects the lives of both the people I meet and the changes I am going through in the time frame of the project. The subjects in this body of work are composed of objects, animals, landscapes, light, shape and form which all contain the presence of human culture. A main part of the project is creating an archive of portraits; groups of strangers and individuals I’m not familiar with, people in my social circle who got close to me through time, and friends or family which I have known all of my life. Through the photographs, they become a representation of a point in time and culture.
Contemporary culture agrees that choices are a dominant factor in defining an individual. We are what we choose, and what we choose can speak volumes about who we are.</text>

<text>as a djinn is a collection of black and white photographs of the city of Delhi, India, Kira’s hometown.

The images were made over a period of 4 years (2018-21), during which Kira observed and photographed her city through a lens of grief, loneliness, anxiety, and sometimes, hope.

During difficulties with mental health, the exercise was to see oneself in the world and to see the world in oneself.

Delhi is the capital city of India, and has been the seat of power for many empires in the past. It is chaotic, aggressive, eerie, and ugly; it is also charming, resilient, surreal, and seductive. Perhaps it is so because of all it has survived: being built, destroyed, and rebuilt century after century at the whims of different men. They say the city has been rebuilt seven times, the one standing today being the eighth: a crowded noisy concrete labyrinth, a sedimented necropolis.

In dusty tombs of royalty unknown, curious staircases always bolted and locked, bored pigeons seasonal flowers, frustrated graffiti, neglected museum treasure, protest, and artist-friends, she shows her city, as a djinn.</text>

<text>What freedoms and independence does the disabled concessionary bus pass truly afford people with disabilities? Photographer Dan Bowhay spent 10 Days, 19 hours, 33 minutes, and 15 seconds travelling the length of England, from Land’s End to the Scottish Border near Berwick-upon-Tweed, on local buses and within the restrictions of a disabled bus pass.

Bowhay’s photographs are a subversion of the work of classic road trip photographers, with him photographing primarily from the buses, his means of transportation, and not at the destinations themselves. These photographs differ substantially from the classic images of small English villages and picturesque natural landscapes that we are accustomed to seeing on tours of the country, and instead reflect a more realistic vision of England, seen through the scratches, dirt, and condensation on the windows of an ever-dwindling public transportation network.

The concessionary pass is intended to provide disabled travellers with the same freedom and independence as able-bodied people, but it falls short of this in many ways. Most controversially, the pass can only be used during off-peak times, a heavily criticised policy that “implies disabled people do not hold a place in the world of work, education settings, or in wider social activities, and dismisses their right to equal opportunities” (Whizz Kidz, 2023). With bus services constantly being cut, and with trains and coaches being excluded from the pass, fewer and fewer locations year-on-year actually remain accessible to travellers reliant on the pass.</text>
