<text>An intimate story of a relationship lived with a third entity - invisible illness. It explores my journey as both husband and photographer trying to understand my wife’s condition. A love story of empathy and passion, frustration and laughter. The book uses a breadth of photographs from a 13 year period; both images that are poignantly medical related and candid moments of joy and intimacy.

I started photographing Zara when we first met. Images of nights out, eating and kissing were soon joined by images of flare ups and hospital visits. She lives with conditions that cause constant pain and which lead to life often feeling like it lacks cohesion and order. They join us as silent partners in our relationship with each other, and our wider world. </text>

With images spanning 2005 to 2014, what began as a look in the mirror to understand the essence of Egyptian identity expanded into an exploration of the trials & tribulations of a turbulent nation. The result is dark, sentimental and passionate. Juxtaposing the innocence of the past with the obscurity of the present, the book is an experience, edited to look like a one night’s encounter. A peaceful and tranquil day suddenly turns violent and chaotic, it’s claustrophobic, until a new dawn rises and there is hope again.</text>

<text>The book is a collection of my work made over the span of about 5 years. The title comes from a reimagining and reauthorising of memory and childhood. I had realised I had lost a chunk of memory due to childhood trauma and wanted to reassert it via my work and had also realised the themes which had ran throughout my practice all along. It is rooted in collective joy as resistance and our ability to shape our narratives against forces in control. From politics to family abuse, this book subverts the sadness into a fantasy of costume, rave and working class narratives. Class is rooted in the book as I explore what it means to make authentically working class imagery in an industry that is obsessed with the visuals yet condemns our actual existence.</text>

<text>A Manual for Silence is a photo-text booklet based on an ongoing sequence of photographs bearing the same title. Images may tell the narrative, the testimony, via its absence — the vacancy of the subject. Text conjures images by beleaguering the unspeakable — pasting words and sentences onto the invisible form until it reveals a wireframe of the object.

Perhaps there — behind this impediment, the existence of it all is to be found. In the failed correspondence of mumbling planes and shards of breached conventions. In the imminent erosion of understanding, solely a silent touch can soothe.</text>

<text>“Through the chance befriending of a man who became a kind of guide, Nik Roche spent two years photographing an extremely intimate portrait of an otherwise impenetrable community.

Collected together in this book, the images that resulted are scattered with the debris of a domesticity that, initially, seems familiar. Yet the more time we spend in here with them, the more perceptible the sound of this place becomes— in an increasing disorientation of our own presumptions. This book reveals as much about us as it does its subject, as it gradually peels back overlapping skins of fear and desire.

We find warmth in the ache of day-to-day banality, held tight together by unspeakable bonds and a hand-me-down sense of threat. We catch glimpses of hand-written letters, a shopping list, transcriptions of remembered conversations, of violent tales of self-affirmation that slide along a blade of hilarity… the punctuation of the endless now of time by extreme events that then give way to more waiting; that then give way to waves of opiatic calm between unseen confrontations that attempt to correct the distortions of the sounds of home that we have come to rely on.

And yet, throughout this book, we find love, compassion, incidental hope and the joy of familiar patterns. We find the structures of trust in kept animals and in the birds that offer release. And all the while, beyond the fires, we hear the distant sound of the external world, decaying in its failures.”

<text>Following my Father's death in 2017 I started to photograph his things, in part to keep hold of him and in part to allow me to let go of his possessions. Over the following nine months I photographed everything he had, spending days at a time in his home. Everything he owned was carefully carried in my hands to my make shift studio, photographed and then put back in place.
This book is a selection from the 9,000+ images documenting death, a life well lived, collections, design and history. It creates a portrait of the man and asks what things do we keep?. My Dad was a writer, artist poet and memoirist among other things and the pages reflect all aspects of his life. </text>

<text>Like for so many others, the nationwide lockdown of March 2020 marked a challenging transitional period for Joshua J Sneade. His life and career were put on hold and for the first time in more than five years, he returned home to the county of Shropshire. Although initially feeling like a backwards step, the move allowed Joshua an opportunity to reconnect with the landscape of his youth. Spurred on by the restlessness of months indoors and inspired by the bucolic poetry of A.E. Housman’s A Shropshire Lad, Joshua set out to discover the beauty that the county had to offer.

Long walks became a daily occurrence and the rising temperatures of spring, combined with Houseman’s many references to water, led Joshua to discover a passion for wild swimming. As spring gave way to summer, and as lockdown started to ease, Joshua welcomed the chance to rekindle old friendships, too long neglected amongst the rigours of modern life. Together, he and a group of friends recaptured the spirit of a carefree youth as they uncovered the riches of the local landscape and the meditative properties of the region’s hidden waters.

On the Idle Hill of Summer is a documentation of those paradoxically halcyon days in the summer of Covid-19. Days spent in the pursuit of something that, just for a little while, could distract from the uncertain future of a world in turmoil. It is a celebration of the equanimity found amongst the unchanging stillness of the Shropshire Hills and in the cold embrace of rivers, lakes and quarries. Most of all, it is, in retrospect, a reminder to savour the smaller moments: the anticipation of poring over maps, tracing lines of blue ink; the satisfaction of the weary silence on the journey home; and the exasperation of the days spent looking out of the window, waiting for the rains to pass, promising to never again under appreciate the beauty of a sunset.</text>
