<text>“Imagine, for a moment, a Cézanne who, rather than attempting to picture the structure of Mont Saint-Victoire and of every part of the natural world through “the geometric forms: the cone, the cube, the cylinder, and the sphere”, instead attempted to picture it through the idea and form of fire (Cézanne 1904). Imagine that in this alternate universe Cézanne took the idea of picturing the world in terms of the structure of fire, where all matter was energy, all energy was active, and all activity was a transferral of energy, both physical energy and psychic energy. This is not such a counter-intuitive proposition as it may first seem, in relation to John Peter Askew’s quarter-century-long project to capture the intimate lives of a single family in Perm, Russia, and to think about our collective direction through the twenty-first century so far. Indeed Askew has predecessors in this regard even in the recent history of British art: Derek Jarman referred to his art ‘as [a] poetry of fire … luminous and oblique’. Askew’s work is, as both Cezanne’s and Jarman’s are, luminous in both the literal and metaphorical senses.” Alistair Robinson
WE II, a companion volume to WE and the second part of Askew’s quarter-century long, maverick work, is a timely voice of humanity, celebrating friendship, communality and kindness.</text>

<text>The tension between culture and nature is a matchmaking force that has occupied our minds for centuries. In a current system that dehumanizes and separates, ‘Elective Affinities’ brings together a series of personal stories that investigate universal themes inviting the reader's reflection on the human condition. Through six visual essays, these authors observe connections between people, their beliefs and actions by exploring family narratives, the process of grief and loss, the margins of social standards, mythological representations, the relation between faith and place and the imact of urban racial segregation. The resulting work has been produced throughout Catalyst, an international mentorship programme, supporting six innovative photographers working alongside a group of international mentors; consisting of artists, designers, curators, educators and photographers. The programme is designed to further their personal careers and widen their approach and methods to photographing. The programme is directed by IC Visual Lab in collaboration with Bristol Photo Festival.

<text>"This project aims to explore, in my opinion, the most challenging period of my childhood, the beginning of a new chapter: puberty and the early premise of adulthood.

It also serves to reflect the behaviour that my family and I revert to every time we return to our home: we eat the same foods, drink the same drinks, read the same books, go to the same places and superficially appear to regress back to the people we were before we left.

Yet we can never be the same people we once were.

No Man's Land is a transition, a journey through habits, identity and nostalgia, relationships and insecurity as emotional tools. The home here is a confidante that has watched us grow and blossom, a vessel bursting with memories.

Rather than working solely off of archival photographs, No Man's Land brings an element of physical performance and a sometimes painterly aesthetic to newly executed work, which seems to mirror the adolescent search for identity and self-discovery.

This project aims to question the veracity of memories and how we, as adults, have been forged by such a short period of our life more than we might think."</text>

<text> ‘Warme Regen’ is a project that started to bloom during Spring 2020. The pandemic put our lives on hold and brought a great sense of unreality. Time and space suddenly took on different connotations that along the way brought important reflections on our habits and values. The snapshots in this project should be seen as a search for the presence of authenticity and beauty that all too often escape our attention. My images often reflect something that you can feel, but where you do not fully know what you are feeling at that moment. Somewhere a kind of personal inquiry in which I try to get closer to that feeling in order to understand that fascination better. The need and hunger to capture those special (hidden) moments when life slows down and cuts deeper drives me and has become an essential part of my photography. </text>

<text>'On Fading Away' documents a father-daughter relationship as it transforms through illness, exploring how bonds change when roles begin to reverse. The narrative moves between past and present, mixing childhood memories with current realities. The book traces the subtle shifts in a relationship where the father gradually becomes the one needing protection. It's a personal story about how we adapt to loss even as it's happening, and how we find new ways to connect when old patterns fade away.

The book reveals how the slow process of saying goodbye, though painful, offers its own kind of healing — an opportunity to care for someone who once cared for you, and to find meaning in the gradual transition from child to caregiver.</text>
