<text>Three years ago, journalist and filmmaker Elizabeth McCafferty met a man with a passion so unusual, that she became fixated on documenting every inch of it. Since the eighties, Trevor Cunningham has collected unused sick bags from every flight he’s ever been on. Although his collection is weird to some, his obsession with sick bags has more sentimental value than most would expect. In 1989, Trevor’s 32 year old boss, Peter, tragically passed away at work from a brain aneurysm. After discovering his collection while clearing out his desk draws, he decided to carry on the collection in Peter's honour, a small tribute to keep his memory and journey alive that lives on today through Trevor's stories in this book.

“Sicko” is a self published book by Elizabeth McCafferty, typed via typewriter and handwritten notes only. It’s a celebration of cherished collections, the people behind them and a chance to encourage people to look at the mundane a little bit differently. https://youtu.be/fhhp-bMxmpU?si=QQ5nxbUzSA90khj8</text>

<text>My work moves between documentary observation, conceptual thinking and image-making rooted in atmosphere and stories. This approach can be applied to anything I do. I’m drawn to incompleteness and to the tension between what is revealed and what remains unresolved. The idea of the fragment is central to the way I think – how individual fragments, when placed next to one another, can create an entirely new narrative or emotional meaning. That’s why I like to think of myself more as a collector than a traditional photographer.

I often think of images in a way that is very close to writing. Visual language, similarly to words, carries its own rhythm, symbolism, emotional codes. I’m fascinated by how meaning is constructed through association and sequencing, and by the way images can function almost like sentences within a larger narrative.</text>

<text>In Black Nest, Mathias Christensen dissolves into a dark misty world of his former hometown, Copenhagen. With insistent aesthetic consequence, we are sucked into a delirium of obscured strange sceneries, never knowing what's waiting around the corner. Throughout the book Christensen circles around crucial existential cornerstones in the urban landscape, hence the paradox of loneliness and alienation coexisting within the density of the human masses seems to be an essential phenomenon in this work. "In the beginning I thought I was looking at the city as a place and this discomfort it triggered inside me. But later on I realized I was looking at something deeper and much more horrifying, I was looking at the urban specie as a state of being," says Mathias Christensen. With particular interest in mankinds relation to nature and modern society, the work of Mathias Christensen (b. 1984) have been featured in exhibitions around Europe and USA.</text>

<text>"Cherry Blossom, Don’t Cry" for me is a testimony to a paradigm shift.

In 2023, I traveled to Japan for work. I was in a dark place at the time, feeling lost, dealing with the challenges of aging, hurting in love, and unconsciously drifting away from my most personal photography. I had started focusing only on commercial work, chasing projects that didn’t fulfill me, as if I had forgotten what truly moved me.

And then the flowers came.
I believe they helped me. The cherry blossoms, with their quiet beauty, reminded me to return to myself and to what I love doing: to create again, from a sincere and vulnerable place.

A year later, when I was going through the images, I could feel both the sadness I had carried and the light I brought back. I realized all those feelings had been photographed without me even knowing it.

I feel the book takes you on that same path, moving from darkness to light.
The title "Cherry Blossom, Don’t Cry" was a quiet reminder I kept repeating to myself, a way to cheer myself up during those days.</text>
